Chicago, IL 2023– Simone Gemkow is proud to announce her new role as the London Chapter President of the International Association of Women (IAW), a global in-person and online networking platform that supports professional women with local chapters around the world, resources, networking, and professional development.
Simone personifies what our members are: highly successful, motivated women who work tirelessly to achieve professional success,” says Megan Bozzuto, President of the International Association of Women. “In her leadership role as IAW’s London Chapter President, she helps members use our online platform to connect, learn from, and share experiences with women around the world who are recognized experts.
In addition, Simone, who has a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, is Manager-Team Leader at McLaren Automotive. “I have always been curious about how things work,” she said. “This has been true since an early age when I favored toy blocks and Matchbox cars over dolls and was most interested by science and math subjects at school. Some might say that these were the earliest steps towards a successful career in engineering.”
Using the exceptional management and communication skills she honed throughout her career, Simone oversees responsibilities, including leading a team of top automotive engineers, fostering new talent, managing projects, designing a budget, building relationships, and planning strategically. “My team is responsible for delivering safety design, development, and testing for future vehicles,” she added.
Simone Gemkow began her career as an engineer and admits it was challenging to step outside of her comfort zone. “I have always been a technically strong person but I had to develop entirely new skills and personal attributes to fill my role as a successful department and team leader,” she said. “Today, I am self-assured in my role as a manager and presenter and this confidence has motivated me to become President of IAW’s London Chapter where I support building a global community and network of professional women to help them dream, rise, and shine. I believe that women will achieve the most when they work together.”
An avid advocate of all professional women, Simone started a blog, Career with a View. “This is where I help young women advance in their careers and get access to the rooms where decisions are made,” she said. “As someone who has benefitted from mentoring, I am happy to share my learnings and experience with other women who may not always have a great mentor at their fingertips.”
Education & Accomplishments: Ph.D., Cranfield University, Mechanical Engineering; MSc, Cranfield University, Advanced Lightweight Structures and Impact; BSc, Technical University of Berlin, Mechanical Engineering
