[Brooklyn, New York] - The Design Database, founded and led by Courtlyn Jones, reached a remarkable milestone by celebrating its two-year anniversary this past July. Alongside its anniversary, the company celebrates its new recognition with the prestigious 2023 Innovation & Excellence Award for "Art Networking Platform of the Year." Courtlyn's journey to creating this platform was inspired by her personal needs and her desire to support and uplift other women in the arts.
The Design Database, often referred to as her "first-born child," emerged as a response to the unique challenges faced by women in the arts. Courtlyn, a passionate artist herself, found that the corporate world often stripped away the joy of creating art for her. Recognizing the undervaluation and isolation many women in the arts experience, she embarked on a mission to build a supportive community.
Courtlyn's path to founding The Design Database was shaped by several pivotal events, including her dissatisfaction with her corporate job as a graphic designer, a diagnosis of thyroid cancer, and a spiritual awakening. It was these life-changing moments that propelled her to seek a fulfilling path and help others do the same. She realized she loved designing and creating art but found true satisfaction working for herself or with clients who valued her talents.
One crucial turning point for Courtlyn was connecting with other women in the arts who shared their experiences and insights. This support network made her recognize her own value and potential. Determined to create a global community of female creatives who uplift and support each other, Courtlyn founded The Design Database.
As the Founder & CEO of The Design Database, Courtlyn maintains and updates the platform, plus designs emails, newsletters, and social media content. She hosts and plans virtual and in-person events for the community, networks at events, design merchandise for the shop, and co-hosts, produces, and edits the podcast "Fearless Narratives," which spotlights female creatives and entrepreneurs.
One of Courtlyn's favorite aspects of her role is hosting virtual coffees, where she engages in meaningful conversations with members and learns about their creative journeys and projects.
Looking ahead, The Design Database has exciting projects in the pipeline, starting with increased visibility and opportunities for their community of talented women. Courtlyn and her team are dedicated to helping members find and build their dream careers in the arts.
